A rebellious and versatile artist

Robbie Williams is one of the greatest exponents of British music, and some of his songs, like “Feel” or “Angels,” are known worldwide.

Robbie Williams made one of his stellar appearances during the opening of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, and as always, he left us wanting more.

The British singer-songwriter, born on February 13, 1974, rose to fame with pop-rock songs like “Angels,” “Feel,” and “Come Undone,” tracks that catapulted him onto the music scene and have allowed him to be considered a contemporary icon of British music.

The success of his songs, which instantly become hits, and the rebellious and cheeky style he has shaped throughout his career, have made him a public figure and one of the most influential musicians, despite his excesses (which have led him more than once to rehabilitation clinics for his alcohol addiction).

During his career, he has released nearly 13 albums and has performed around 12 tours, with which he has toured the stages of hundreds of cities and the most famous festivals in the musical scene.

Among his achievements is having sold more than 70 million albums worldwide and having won more Brit Awards than any other pop singer in history.

He also achieved a Guinness World Record when he sold more than 1.6 million tickets for his 2006 world tour.

Robbie Williams and Take That

Robbie Williams first became known as a member of the British group Take That, which he belonged to from 1990 to 1995. Later, he left the group and in 1996 launched his solo career (except for a brief reunion with Take That).

Among his extensive discography, one of his best-known albums is “Escapology,” a work that includes the songs Feel and Come Undone, or The Ego Has Landed, which contains the song Rock DJ. We could mention many more, such as the album Rudebox, or one of his latest releases, The Heavy Entertainment Show.

He has also released some compilations, such as Under the Radar (Volume 1 and 2) or In and Out of Consciousness.

In fact, it should be remembered that Robbie Williams is not only a singer but also a songwriter, musician, producer, and actor. He has collaborated, among many other projects, with the band Queen for the recording of the song “We are the champions” for the movie “A Knight’s Tale” (Destino de caballero in Spain) from 2001.

He also collaborated with Avicii, with whom he released the single The Days, in which the British musician was the featured artist.

Just on Spotify he has more than 4.5 million monthly listeners and his songs have tens of millions of streams (Angels has more than 102 million plays, Feel another 72, Rock DJ 42, She’s the One 36, Love My Life 31).

His most iconic videos as well (who doesn’t remember Rock DJ, where the musician starts by undressing and ends up without skin, being just a mass of muscles?) have accumulated millions of views.

But not everything has been success in his life, as a few years ago, Robbie Williams had to be intermittently hospitalized to overcome his alcohol addictions and has admitted to the press on some occasions that he suffers from some psychological problems, such as anxiety or stage fright.

However, the period of excesses seems to belong to the past and, although the artist remains as controversial as ever, he claims to have been sober for many years.

After his performance at the opening gala of the world's top football competition, he was seen at the latest concert of Taylor Swift, where the American singer invited him to join her on stage to sing the ballad Angels, with her on the piano.

On the other hand, Robbie Williams remains that somewhat rebellious artist who succeeds thanks to a wise mix of danceable songs and pop-rock ballads.

In fact, during his performance in front of the millions of people watching the World Cup opening in stadiums and on televisions around the world, he made an obscene gesture at the camera. Later, he clarified that he was referring to the countdown for the World Cup to start and that he was counting one with his finger...
