Social media, especially Instagram, is a showcase for millions of people worldwide. Every week a new challenge appears on this social network starring some celebrity; millions of people watch the video and want to imitate the dance these celebrities are doing. There are many dance-related challenges, and during this summer you have surely seen more than one that, without knowing how or why, ends up going viral within hours. You surely remember the challenge starring Drake's song or the one starring Thalía just a few weeks ago. After them and gaining strong momentum comes the Mykonos Challenge.
Lohan's Mykonos Challenge
You might be one of the few people who still haven't heard about this viral challenge and you might think it involves performing some feat related to the Greek island of Mykonos. This viral video has little to do with the white houses and winding streets of the island with fine sandy beaches and turquoise waters, or with its popular dances; it only carries its name.
The Mykonos Challenge is the viral video everyone is talking about and everyone is doing. As its name indicates, it originated on the Greek island, specifically at the Lohan Beach Club Mykonos during a party. This business is run by Lindsay Lohan, who on September 3rd became the protagonist of our story after joining the party being held at her club and being recorded by one of the attendees.
The video shows Lohan dancing to electronic music, making movements with her arms and snapping her fingers in the air while moving her head to let her hair flow. One of the attendees decided to take out their mobile phone and capture the moment by making a video they wanted to share with everyone on Instagram.
A few hours later, and downplaying the matter in which it was said the actress was under the influence of alcohol, Lohan posted the video on her Instagram with the hashtag #doTheLilo. From that moment, views and plays of the moment began to grow rapidly and imitators started appearing in every corner of the planet. The video already has thousands of likes and more than a million views.

Another of the most talked-about musical challenges this summer was the one starring Thalía's pink fringe outfit and her song to her fans. This video, just a couple of minutes long, also went viral within hours.
The Mexican actress and singer, to celebrate the success of her story, has called on her fans to break a record: she intends to gather 13,597 people to perform a flashmob to the rhythm of “Me oyen, me escuchan”. With this gathering, she aims to surpass the number recorded by Michael Jackson's fans who met in 2009 in Mexico City to all dance together one of the most famous songs of the King of Pop: Thriller.
