Blanca Paloma, high return at Eurovision

It has already been a year since Chanel amazed all the eurofans with her "chanelazo," and this year comes Blanca Paloma and her entourage of “pichones,” whose result in the 2023 edition of the festival, held on May 13, does not seem likely to be far from the third place achieved last year by Slomo. What makes EAEA, the song Blanca Paloma is presenting, so special and different? Here we give you the keys.

Marca España

An increasingly requested demand by the Spanish eurofan community is to take a song with a Spanish stamp to Eurovision. There is no doubt that EAEA meets this requirement. That lullaby with touches of flamenco fusion, something already well known in musical culture thanks to artists like Rosalía, is for Blanca Paloma a tribute to her Andalusian roots, despite being originally from Elche.

A carefully crafted staging

In the staging of EAEA, everything is measured to the millimeter, everything has a reason. The performer lives the song so deeply because she herself has participated in designing the choreography, which she has described as “theatrical/cinematic.” In this carefully crafted scenography, her peculiar archer gesture stands out, a symbol that already identifies her and that she showed last year when she first appeared at the Benidorm Fest. In 2022, Blanca Paloma tried her luck at this festival, the prelude to the European contest held this year in Liverpool, United Kingdom. On that occasion, with her song Secreto de agua, luck was not on her side, but as they say, persistence pays off, and in February 2023 her moment arrived.

A novelty at every pre-party

One more thing has caught the attention of eurofans from all countries. Blanca Paloma has been able to present a different version of her EAEA at each pre-party. At every performance at these pre-Eurovision events, Blanca Paloma and her team have introduced some novelty, which has caught the attention of all followers of this contest and once again shows the work, effort, and dedication that the entire Spanish group is putting into carefully managing their journey toward the Eurovision final. This, in fact, has been reflected in the betting odds and has helped Blanca Paloma climb several positions to reach the current Top 5 (this entry is published on May 8).

The bets predict excellent results for the Nordic countries, countries that also have vast experience in the festival and a great musical culture since, for them, the Eurovision race begins at the moment of choosing the songs that will represent them. They organize festivals that have been held for many years and where a certain level and quality are already assumed. Spain seems to be following the same path, and for a couple of years now, Benidorm Fest seems to have established itself as the official platform that will serve as a springboard to select the national representative for Eurovision, a formula that seems to succeed in other countries.

Be that as it may, this year there seems to be a greater presence of pop music at the festival and a greater tendency toward choreographies with dance breaks, in the purest style of Chanel. And it is precisely for this reason that Eurovision experts think this could be Blanca Paloma’s year, for bringing something so unique, so different, and so ours.
