Pretend someone is at home remotely activating smart bulbs

The security of your vacation home goes beyond just having your home fully monitored. In addition to installing video surveillance systems and alarms at home to notify us if an intruder has entered our residence or business, it’s also useful to prepare a deterrent plan. That is, something that makes a potential thief think that the house is not empty and that it’s better not to risk breaking in.

There are different methods, but today we’re going to talk about smart bulbs for our home or office. When we talk about smart devices, they all share connectivity to our WiFi network and the ability to be managed from a smartphone. The same applies to these devices, which we can control remotely from our phone or tablet to decide when we want to turn them on and off.

Thanks to the SPC AURA series of smart bulbs, you can decide when to simulate that someone is home. The SPC IoT app lets you turn on or off any bulbs you want at any time and from a distance, so anyone snooping from the street might think someone has turned on the light. To do this, it’s best to turn the lights on and off in different rooms randomly and at different times because if you always set the same schedule, it might be more obvious that it’s an automation.

Of course, you can also schedule a turn-on and turn-off time to repeat every day, which isn’t a bad idea if you want to “mimic” your daily routines. So, during the times you’re away from home or on vacation, if the light in your bedroom still turns on at the same time you get up each day to go to work, it will seem like you’re still home following your usual habits. You should replicate this schedule across the different areas of your home you would normally use during a typical day: kitchen, bathroom, entrance… No one will doubt that someone is home.

Sync multiple IoT devices together to make it seem more real

One of the great advantages of having a complete ecosystem of smart devices managed from a single app is that you can create custom scenarios and automations by syncing several devices. For example, if in your home, besides smart bulbs, you add a smart security camera, you can create a rule in the app so that the living room light turns on when the entrance camera detects an unusual presence.

This is just one example of the many variables that can be programmed using smart products that “speak” the same language like those from SPC, all operating under the Tuya standard. This allows full interoperability between them and also ensures compatibility of the entire smart product catalog with the voice assistants Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant to further maximize user convenience and comfort.
