Just over a week before the 2023 Christmas Lottery Extraordinary Draw takes place, it’s time to organize the tickets we have bought this year. It is customary in our country to buy tickets among family, friends, or coworkers. We’re going to tell you how you can use technology to share the lottery properly and to pay for it (or claim the prize if you’ve been lucky enough to be one of this year’s winners).
In fact, if this is your fate this year and your number wins, what might seem like the greatest joy can turn into a nightmare if that winning ticket was shared with others and the only proof is a photo sent via WhatsApp. To do things properly and share a lottery ticket securely by phone, you just need to follow a few simple steps that won’t take much time but can save you a lot of trouble.

We just need to make sure that when sharing the photo of the ticket we bought with others, the following information is clearly visible:
.- details of the person who holds the ticket,
.- names of the participants,
.- each person’s share.
Paying for the lottery together through Bizum
At this time of year, it’s common for one person to be responsible for buying the shared ticket or tickets and to make the initial payment out of their own money, then collect each participant’s proportional share. Technology is here to help make this process faster, safer, and less awkward. It’s not always easy to ask someone face-to-face for money and chase them until they pay, so for these occasions, we can use the Bizum payment app.
Thanks to the dual functionality of this app, which on one hand allows you to make payments to others and on the other allows you to request payments, it’s easy to collect money from your couch with no effort. Whoever paid for the entire ticket can request each participant’s share by selecting their contact from the app’s contact list. It’s very simple and intuitive—you won’t make a mistake! The recipient just needs to accept the payment request that arrives on their phone or tablet, after verifying that all the details are correct, so the money is transferred from their account to the requester’s account.
For the past 3 years, the payment app has collaborated with Lotería y Apuestas del Estado to allow both paying for and claiming lottery prizes. Again, paying is very simple, although it does require the payer’s physical presence. You just need to follow these steps:
- Access Bizum through your bank’s app.
- Generate a QR code from the app. This code is valid for a single transaction and is valid for a maximum of 15 minutes.
- The lottery office staff must scan this QR code.
- Validate the payment through the app, with the legal limit set at 2,000 euros.

This limit also applies to claiming lottery prizes via Bizum, so the app will not allow prizes over €2,000 to be claimed. If you have been fortunate enough to win such an amount, you just need to go to any lottery office, generate a new QR code from the app for the staff to scan, and with Bizum open, wait to receive confirmation that the transaction was successful.
