SPC Care is the first remote assistance application developed by the leading brand in senior mobile phones in Spain, aimed at promoting healthy aging, digital security, and reducing the digital divide.
This innovative application allows real-time remote configuration of the mobile phone, tracking the location of the elderly person, ensuring their safety through alerts and notifications, protecting them from SPAM, and monitoring their physical activity and health reminders.
The solution is fully integrated with the new SPC POLARIS, the first mobile phone for seniors on the market compatible with this app.
The digital divide among seniors is a growing phenomenon affecting a significant segment of the population, who face difficulties adapting to technological advances. In Spain, more than 2 million elderly people live alone and must face the challenges of digitalization without support.
The “Study on Technology Use Among Our Seniors,” conducted by the Spanish consumer electronics brand SPC among people caring for seniors over 70, reveals that over 90% of seniors in our country have access to some type of technological device. Among the gadgets owned by seniors in our country, smartphones (49%) and mobile phones without internet access (45%) are two of the most common. However, this significant technological adoption does not guarantee they know how to use it independently. In fact, SPC’s research reveals that nine out of ten seniors (88%) require assistance to perform basic tasks on their mobile phones, whether occasionally (29%), frequently (44%), or every time they try to use the phone (15%); affecting the autonomy and well-being of this group and highlighting the reality of the digital divide in our country.
In response to this reality, SPC, the leading mobile phone brand in Spain, has launched SPC Care, an innovative application that allows family members and caregivers to remotely manage the settings of their elderly loved ones’ basic mobile phones without internet access, optimizing the safety of this population segment and their confidence in using technology. In this way, the new app provides a comprehensive assistance platform tailored to a senior audience and contributes to healthy aging, digital security, and reducing the digital divide.
This pioneering and unique brand application offers compatibility exclusively with SPC phones and is launched fully integrated with SPC POLARIS. This launch will be complemented in the future by other brand devices that will be integrated into SPC Care to offer this value to all its users.
The new application changes nothing for our seniors, who can continue using the mobile devices they are familiar with; but it changes everything for family and close ones because, thanks to SPC Care, they enjoy the benefits of more advanced technologies such as the peace of mind of knowing their loved ones are cared for wherever they are, without invading their autonomy.
Simple real-time remote configuration to care for those who have cared for us
SPC Care has been designed to eliminate the main barriers seniors face when using their mobile phones. According to SPC’s “Study on Technology Use Among Our Seniors,” fraudulent calls (59%), understanding notifications and deleting unnecessary ones (57%), as well as adjusting basic settings like screen brightness or volume (54%) are the main problems seniors over 70 encounter when using their electronic devices. Likewise, one in three (30%) also finds complications with essential functions such as making and receiving calls.
SPC Care allows remote management from the caregiver’s smartphone of the following aspects of the senior’s mobile phone:
- Alerts and notifications: SPC Care notifies missed calls and new messages, and sends alerts if something is wrong, such as inactivity for a prolonged period, low battery, or if the senior presses the SOS button.
- GPS location: the application allows knowing the location of the senior’s mobile phone (requires the device to have GPS, as in the case of SPC POLARIS).
- Full remote configuration: SPC Care allows managing all the parameters of the senior phone, such as adjusting screen brightness, changing font size or sound levels, adding contacts to the address book, or configuring the SOS button, among other options.
- SPAM protection: SPC Care protects against unwanted interactions through a blacklist and allows marking SMS as read and calls as seen so the senior does not interact with potentially fraudulent messages or contacts.
- Health reminders: the app can generate reminders for medical appointments, medications, and schedules, as well as monitor seniors’ physical activity by tracking daily steps (requires a pedometer, as in the case of SPC POLARIS).
SPC Care, very easy and intuitive to use, facilitates collaborative management as it allows different family members and caregivers to manage the same senior profile jointly. It also enables adding multiple “Cared-for Persons” profiles on a single device.
