The new SPC CO2 AIR QUALITY MONITOR informs us about the air we breathe and tells us when it’s time to ventilate, an essential action to contain this sixth wave of coronavirus, for which experts recommend combining the two ‘V’s: Vaccination + Ventilation. Technology can help us know if a room in our home or office is well ventilated.
This sixth wave of COVID-19 we are experiencing is having a major impact, with a very high number of infections, despite the high vaccination rates in the Spanish population. The new Omicron variant, more contagious than previous ones, has made health authorities change course, now recommending that all the precautions we have been taking since March 2020 be complemented with what has been called the two ‘V’s (Vaccination + Ventilation), to reduce the chances of contagion.
In this regard, SPC, the Spanish technology company specialized in consumer electronics products, has recently introduced SPC CO2 AIR QUALITY MONITOR, a device that measures air quality so we know when it’s time to ventilate our home, business, or office if the CO2 data it shows is not optimal.
This device measures the level of CO2 that accumulates in an enclosed space and emits light signals through a color-coded traffic light that indicates the air quality levels we are breathing. In this way, if it shows a high CO2 level, it can be associated with poor ventilation, and we already know that it is in those enclosed environments, with some crowding and poor ventilation, where COVID-19 finds its best way to spread.
Thanks to its visual alarms, we will know if we are breathing air with a ‘Very good’ quality, if it is below 600 ppm (parts per million) and shown in green; ‘Normal’, if it is between 600 and 1200 ppm and shown in orange; and ‘Poor’, if it is above 1200 ppm and the light notification is red. If the user prefers, the device has a ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode to turn off the screen and show only a small LED light with the color indicating air quality.
It also features a sound alarm indicating poor air quality (configurable: you can turn it on or off). This way, even if it is out of your sight, the device will emit the selected alarm and alert you if high levels of CO2 concentration in the environment are reached.
SPC CO2 AIR QUALITY MONITOR measures carbon dioxide as well as temperature and humidity in any room thanks to its compact mirror-effect design, which includes a humidity sensor that records values between 10% and 95%, and a temperature sensor that records between -10º and 40º. It also functions as a clock and calendar and has a long battery life, up to 20 hours, thanks to its 1000 mAh lithium-ion battery. It comes with a micro USB cable included for charging.
It is a very useful tool for controlling occupancy in venues and businesses, as well as in family and friend gatherings, and can be used as a desktop device or wall-mounted with its own anchors.
With dimensions of 90 x 90 x 26 mm (without bracket) and a weight of only 90.5 grams (with bracket), this air quality monitor is a fundamental device for those who want to enjoy a healthy environment.
Price and availability
SPC’s CO2 AIR QUALITY MONITOR is available at a price of 79.90 euros.
