What's On

From telecommuting to time-tracking work

It has been more than 4 years since COVID locked us down at home and brought with it a new way of working for Spain, anticipating an unknown future that was within our reach but we didn’t want to see: remote work. Almost half a decade later, this mode has evolved by leaps and bounds to reach the new trend of Chronoworking. Do you know what it is? We’ll tell you.

As we said, remote work was imposed completely unexpectedly and came not only to stay but to advance, evolve, and increasingly adapt to the needs and lifestyles of workers. So much so that recently, we have heard about hybrid work, the Modern Workplace, or digital nomads. And now, what’s being talked about is chronoworking, which is nothing more than adapting your work schedule to your circadian rhythms.

Each of us is more productive at certain times of the day than at others. What this new chronoworking formula seeks is to adapt our work schedule to those moments when we are most productive and work according to our biological rhythm. This new trend aims to work towards meeting goals and personalizing the schedule based on our peak productivity times instead of working to comply with a preset timetable.

Not everyone performs the same or at the same time. In fact, studies show that just over half of people reach their highest productivity level between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.; the other 45% are understood to be more productive at other times of the day.

Continuing with data and statistics, a survey conducted by the recruitment company Walters People shows that 44% of respondents highlighted two main advantages: improved mental health and increased concentration and work productivity. Another 10% pointed to better sleep as an important benefit of this new work formula.

After all, the necessary foundation for a high level of productivity is a high level of employee motivation, and the new human resources approaches companies are implementing involve greater schedule flexibility and increasing work-life balance.
