En SPC creemos que nadie debería vivir en silencio: nuestro compromiso en la lucha contra la soledad no deseada

At SPC, we believe that no one should live in silence: our commitment to fighting unwanted loneliness

Irene Manterola

In Spain, more than 2.6 million people live alone. But there is a loneliness deeper than the lack of company: unwanted loneliness, the kind that appears when someone feels they no longer belong, that their presence goes unnoticed, that no one calls... that no one waits. The recent publication of the Map of Unwanted Loneliness in Spain, prepared by the Padre Ángel Social Foundation, has once again shed light on a silent reality that mainly affects older people: emotional, social, and digital disconnection. Unwanted loneliness is not a statistic or a trend. It is a wound that cannot be seen, but can be felt. And as a society, we have the responsibility to ensure that no one ages in silence. At SPC, we take on this commitment: to create technology that supports, connects, and restores presence. 🌍 December 16: International Day Against Unwanted Loneliness A tribute to those who turn adversity into beauty On December 16, the International Day Against Unwanted Loneliness is observed, a date that invites reflection and action against this reality growing in our cities, towns, and homes. This day is inspired by a very special anniversary:📅 the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven. Beethoven experienced profound loneliness, caused by the progressive loss of his hearing.Isolated from the world, unable to hear the music he himself created, he could have given up.But he chose to transform that darkness into light. From his silence was born one of humanity’s most moving works: the Ninth Symphony, and within it, the Ode to Joy.A work that continues to awaken in all of us a universal longing for peace, brotherhood, and unity. Beethoven reminds us that imposed loneliness can hurt, but it does not extinguish the greatness of what we can still contribute. And here is the most beautiful parallel:👉 just like Beethoven, our elders treasure an invaluable inner wealth, born from their experiences, lessons, mistakes, stories, and wisdom.Even when they feel sidelined, invisible, or disconnected, they still hold immense value for the world. Society just needs to listen to them. And technology can help us build that bridge. 💙 SPC Care: when technology becomes companionship Unwanted loneliness often begins with a small disconnection:a video call they can’t make,a phone they don’t know how to set up,a message that doesn’t arrive,a silence that stretches on. That’s why at SPC we created SPC Care, a service designed so that elderly people are never truly alone, neither practically nor emotionally. 🌟 What does SPC Care enable? Remote help to set up the elder’s phone from a family member’s device. Safe location, for mutual peace of mind. Automatic alerts from the SOS button. A continuous bridge between the elderly person and their caregiver. SPC Care is not just technology. It is companionship. It is security. It is affection transformed into a tool.It is the certainty of being able to say: “I’m with you, even if I’m far away.” 🤝 Technology that embraces: SPC's commitment to our elders The fight against unwanted loneliness requires action, sensitivity, and listening. That’s why, at SPC, we work every day to make older people feel accompanied in their digital transition: Designing basic phones, accessible and reliable. Creating smartphones for seniors with clear, large, and understandable interfaces. Developing smartwatches for their safety, health, and connection. Manufacturing accessible tablets to learn, communicate, and enjoy. Offering services like SPC Care, which turn technology into an emotional bridge. We believe in technology that does not substitute a hug, but can help it arrive sooner. We believe in technology that does not replace companionship, but prevents someone from feeling lost.Above all, we believe in technology that listens. ✨ Because, like Beethoven, our elders still have melodies to offer. And as long as there is a single older person who needs to feel accompanied, visible, and connected,SPC will be there:building bridges, offering tools, caring and supporting. Because no one deserves to live their life in silence. And because joy —the one Beethoven wrote from the deepest solitude—It only exists when we share it.
