Meet your favorite authors at the comic fairs held in Spain

Meet Them at the Fairs!

Superheroes, fantasy characters, singers, illustrators… all of them gather every year at some of the most important comic fairs in our country.

 

Comic fairs serve as a meeting point for lovers of this genre. Almost every province holds an event of this kind throughout the year, so you are sure to enjoy one near you. They are an excellent opportunity to attend signings by your favorite authors and explore new perspectives through the lectures, exhibitions, and talks that almost all of them offer. Below, we leave you some of the most famous in our country so you can start deciding which one you want to attend.

Barcelona Comic Fair

It is one of the most important in the country, next year it will celebrate its 37th edition. This will take place from April 4 to 7, 2019. The program is not yet known, but since this year’s edition there has been a focus on innovation and the introduction of new features. Among them, a new space for the little ones called Comic Kids was inaugurated. Also, in the last edition the organizers tried to give more visibility to women in the world of illustration to highlight their importance through their guests and the lectures held. Among others, participants included: Liv Strömquist, Dann Thomas, Kelly Sue DeConnick, and Shea Fontana. Thus, in the 2018 edition, more than 118,000 people visited the fair.

Barcelona Manga Fair

If what you really like is Manga, the Barcelona Manga Fair is undoubtedly your event. This year it is held from November 1 to 4, a spectacular occasion to enjoy the long weekend.

Among its featured authors in this edition you will be able to enjoy:

  • Akira Himekawa: actually the pseudonym of two female authors who rose to fame after adapting the video games of the The Legend of Zelda saga.
  • Elsa Brants: she made her most important publications in France between 2014 and 2016; she is the creator of the manga Save Me, Pythie.
  • Tatsuo Unemi: he is one of the most famous software developers thanks to his work in developing software that generates evolutionary art through studies on artificial life. Currently, his work focuses on the creation of artworks through new technologies.
  • Emika Kamieda: this edition will also have space for music. One of the most important guests will be this Japanese actress and model known for her participation in the group AKB48. Besides offering a musical performance to attendees, she will be one of the judges of the Idol Contest: Shine bright like an idol in its first edition.

Last year, a total of 148,000 visitors attended this fair and enjoyed more than 203 exhibitors, 11 exhibitions, and 26 high-profile guests.

Getxo Comic Fair

This year it celebrated its 17th edition. It is one of the major events for all comic fans throughout Spain. The fair is held in the Estación de las Arenas square where merchandising shops, publishers, and fanzines gather to acquire old comics and collector’s editions. Of course, there is also space for the latest releases.

Besides this, it has the Romo Culture Hall space where you can enjoy activities, presentations, round tables, screenings, workshops, and talks where you can meet some of your favorite artists.

One of this year’s novelties is the poster created by the illustrator Moderna de Pueblo, who will be one of the participants in this edition.
