Beret. From home performances to a tour across all of Spain

From homemade performances to a tour across Spain

One day Beret was uploading a song composed by himself, recorded in his room, to his Youtube channel and the next day, in an office signing a tour across Spain with one of the biggest record companies.

Beret’s talent led him to stardom. The year 2019 has undoubtedly been his big year, full of news, collaborations, and successes.

Who is Beret?

With the full name Francisco Javier Álvarez Beret, he was born in Seville on July 2, 1996.

As he himself has stated on different occasions, he has always been in contact with music; as a child, with his parents, he listened to different musical genres and, at the age of twelve, he was already composing his own lyrics. He developed a taste for urban rhythms and began listening to rap and composing his own songs.

The truth is that he moved through various styles during his early years in the music world: reggae, urban pop… But Beret admits that his music doesn’t need any label since he only performs what his heart feels, without stereotypes and without being under the denomination of any particular genre.

More than 3 million subscribers on Youtube

The beginnings of his meteoric career were those homemade recordings of his songs that he uploaded to his Youtube channel, which, it must be said, today already has more than 3 million subscribers. His fame gradually grew until reaching more than 200 views with the video of his single “Lo siento”.

In 2015, the young Sevillian released his first non-professional album titled “Efímero,” followed by three more. In 2018, he signed with one of the major record labels: Warner Music. Beret thus joins the list of artists adopted by the major producer, which includes not only famous Spanish singers like Pablo Alborán but also world-class artists like Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran. That same year, he made the leap to Latin America and, together with Colombian Sebastián Yatra, reinterpreted his big hit “Vuelve.”

Just a few months later, in October 2019, the singer from Seville presents his first studio-recorded album called “Prisma.” It features numerous collaborations with renowned artists such as Sofía Reyes, Melendi, and Vanesa Martin, among others.

Choosing between selling more or maintaining your essence

Precisely, with the signing with Warner and these collaborations, part of the audience that had supported Beret since his beginnings has seen this as a commercial move that has caused him to lose part of his soul. On the other hand, indisputably, the singer’s unique voice and the intensity of his lyrics have reached many more people than his more intimate version.

With this work, Beret also embarks on his first major tour throughout Spain. It starts in February in A Coruña and continues throughout 2020 for the enjoyment of his millions of followers in our country.

Obsessed with Netflix

The truth is, behind this whole story of popularity, there is another millennial with the same tastes and needs as the vast majority of his peers. Beret is a 23-year-old young man (as of the publication date of this article, November 2019) who likes to go out partying and have fun with his friends, a skateboarding enthusiast and social media user. Like any young person, he loves watching movies and series on Netflix, to the point of defining himself as obsessed with that platform.
