Have you heard the latest from Google Photos?

Will No Longer Be Free

One of the great advantages that the Google Photos app had until now was, without a doubt, its unlimited free storage capacity. This service, highly valued by users, has saved many of us from always having a full internal memory on our device and, consequently, from having to constantly clear out files. This advantage will disappear on June 1, 2021.

As you may know, Google Photos allows you to back up your images unlimitedly and for free as long as the backup is made in its “high quality” option. The main change announced by Google is that this will soon no longer be free or unlimited. From June 1, 2021, you will be able to keep saving photos in the app at no cost until you reach 15GB of stored files. When the files you have saved in the app’s cloud exceed this limit, Google will start charging you.

Do not be alarmed, all files uploaded in “high quality” before this date will not count towards that 15GB limit. Google already had this limit for photos uploaded in “original quality,” which now extends to all. If you want to know how much space the photos and videos you have in Google Photos take up, you can go to this link.

The company is sending messages to calm possible criticism and reactions from its users and assures that 80% of them will not reach that 15GB limit in the next three years, at least. Furthermore, the company will send notices to its users when they are approaching their limit. In return for the measures taken, Google offers new storage management tools in Google Photos, such as one that facilitates the search and deletion of certain photos suggested by the app itself, like blurry or dark images or screenshots.

BUY MORE STORAGE

From your operating system’s store, it will be easy to find applications that allow you to save your photos for free in the cloud. If, even so, you are especially interested in the Google app, you can acquire more space as follows.

1.- Open Google Drive, expand its options, and click Buy more space.

2.- Choose the storage plan that best suits your needs.

3.- Select the payment method and click Subscribe.

At the same time as you buy more space, you will be subscribing to Google One. Along with photos, Google Docs, Spreadsheets, Slides, Drawings, Forms, and Jamboard files will also begin to count as part of the storage, Google has clarified.
