Discover which films you must watch before Infinity War to fully immerse yourself in the Marvel Universe and its characters.

The adventures of the Avengers have been the great driving force for Marvel Studios, which this year celebrated its 10th anniversary with the release of the latest adventure of its superheroes. If you still don’t know what the Marvel Universe is about, pay attention to learn about films you must watch before Infinity War.

If you are a fan of comics, you have surely already seen the latest Avengers installment. It premiered last April. If you are among those who still don’t know what we are talking about, pay attention to the 15 films you should watch before diving into the Marvel Universe adventure.

The Marvel Universe is the result of 10 years of work, completed with 15 films and many superheroes. In fact, Infinity War is the one that brings together the greatest number of them. To avoid confusion with its characters and the Infinity Stones, the universe is divided into 3 phases that culminate in this event.

The Infinity Stones

These are the great power stones that have their own consciousness. They have the power to unite and work in unison, granting the person who manages to gather them all again omnipotence to rule the universe. Due to the danger of these falling into the wrong hands, they are properly protected and are revealed and appear in the different phases of the Universe.

Thanos is the great villain and aims to gather the 6 Infinity Stones (discover them all in our infographic) to be able to wear the Gauntlet, invade Earth, and finally conquer it. This will unleash the Infinity War. The Destiny Stones are the following:

  • The Space Stone.
  • The Mind Stone.

  • The Reality Stone.
  • The Power Stone.
  • The Time Stone.
  • The Soul Stone.

Phases of the Marvel Universe

The Marvel Universe is divided into three phases in which characters and events develop until reaching this Avengers installment.

Phase 1

This phase introduces all the heroes that are part of the universe. Each film in this phase will describe one of those who will be protagonists in The Avengers, the film that concludes this stage. In this phase, you will see the first two Infinity Stones: the Tesseract (Space Stone) which appears in Captain America, and the Mind Stone in The Avengers. The films included in this first stage are:

  • Iron Man (2008)
  • The Incredible Hulk (2008)
  • Iron Man 2 (2010)
  • Thor (2011)
  • Captain America (2011)
  • The Avengers (2012)

Phase 2

The Universe created in the first phase develops further and new characters appear such as Ant-Man and the Guardians of the Galaxy. In this phase, two new stones appear, making a total of 4. The first is the Aether (Reality Stone), seen in Thor: The Dark World, and the Power Stone in Guardians of the Galaxy. This phase includes:

  • Iron Man 3 (2013)
  • Thor: The Dark World (2013)
  • Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
  • Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
  • Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
  • Ant-Man (2015)

Phase 3

This is the time for a restructuring of the Marvel Universe, in fact, it is the deepest restructuring presented. The alliance formed by the Avengers breaks and a civil war begins. This is reflected in the film Civil War. But that is not all; this war will also see the addition of new characters such as Spider-Man and Black Panther. Meanwhile, Doctor Strange will be the guardian of the 5th Infinity Stone: the Eye of Agamotto or Time Stone. This stage includes:

  • Captain America: Civil War (2016)
  • Doctor Strange (2016)
  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
  • Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
  • Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
  • Black Panther (2018)

Infinity War surpasses Titanic in box office earnings in the United States

The latest film released in April 2018 reflects the idea of the Avengers’ greatest enemy, Thanos, who with his great thirst for power seeks to gather all the Infinity Stones. This is something he has been trying to achieve since his first appearance to fulfill his goal of invading Earth, something the heroes must prevent.

As of today, the box office figures for the latest installment speak for themselves, since since its release it has earned more money than the legendary Titanic after its removal from theaters on September 13. According to data collected by Box Office Mojo, the film has earned a total of 670 million dollars in the US, surpassing by 20 million the box office of the film starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

If we refer to worldwide box office, the figure is astronomical since with Infinity War, Marvel Studios have achieved a total of 2.046 billion dollars. What is most striking is that two other films belonging to the Marvel Universe have also been among the highest earners in recent years: Black Panther and Ant-Man.

Besides box office successes, the company offers a wide range of merchandise that you can find in its official store on the Disney website, where you can also get the film on DVD and Blu-ray to enjoy it in the comfort of your home. Prepare the popcorn and dive into this world of heroes and villains where the future of Earth and the integrity of the 6 Infinity Stones are at stake so they do not fall into the wrong hands.

To whet your appetite, here is the trailer of the latest release. Enjoy!
