March in a Song

The hashtag we’re here to talk about today is so poetic and inspiring that we’ve decided to title this post exactly the same: #marchinasong. It’s a concise name that says it all. On TikTok, the network of viral trends, videos from users sharing their own take on how their March has been have been circulating in recent weeks.

Under the hashtag #marchinasong, this trend has already reached nearly 50 million views. As the platform itself describes, “It would be great to know how your month went, and what better way than with music?” Under this umbrella, hundreds of users have posted their “song summaries” of March.

It’s quite an experience to browse through so much life and so many experiences, as we find a multitude of stories. We can see everything from first-time mothers who still don’t know how to handle their babies’ first tantrums to the typical songs about love and heartbreak that are a must every month.

We find another version of songs among all the options #marchinasong offers: we mean the protest song genre. The protest song can also be a counter-response to a more widely recognized topic; and this is, in fact, the case we bring you here. A community user with several thousand followers and a songwriter responds to a very well-known single by one of the most famous reggaeton singers worldwide. And she does it wonderfully!

And TikTok is full of talent. Through the many posts we’ve shared with you on this blog, we’ve witnessed different artistic disciplines and the mastery of many members of this network. Under #marchinasong, emerging singer-songwriters with thousands of followers on the social network take advantage of this great digital showcase to get known. But we also find very well-known artists who use social media as a stage to present their new work and delight their followers with small previews.

As an example, here’s a recent post from Vanesa Martín, a singer-songwriter who appears on TikTok whenever she can to share something with us.

You can also find the singer Lérica covering a classic by Juan Luis Guerra, for example.

And in your case, what has been the soundtrack that marked your March?
