“Kirby and the Forgotten Land,” a video game developed by HAL Laboratory, has become the first installment in the series with a 3D setting since its release on March 25, 2022. The long-awaited arrival of this family-friendly game for the Nintendo Switch console is here, featuring its well-known mechanics of absorbing and adopting the abilities of its enemies.
Kirby, an endearing pink ball, will have to travel through seven new worlds in this new adventure to find and rescue the Waddle Dee. Each of these worlds consists of several stages that lead to a boss battle at the end. These Waddle Dee help us unlock the entrance to the area bosses; once we defeat them, we can access the next world.
Kirby’s Adorably Post-Apocalyptic World
This lovable character faces a devastated post-apocalyptic world, but cute and charming, where he must save trapped Waddle Dee. But Kirby won’t be alone; he will have the help of Elfilin, a small creature with big ears who will guide him on this adventure, where he will encounter old enemies and some completely new ones.
To progress through the different worlds, this video game offers two types of transformations. As a hallmark, Kirby’s main feature is, once again, his copy ability. Besides dodging or defending, this spherical hero can absorb his enemies to assimilate their traits. In this regard, the game includes a total of 12 abilities: Drill, Ranger, Tornado, Sword, Knife, Sleep, Spikes, Ice, Fire, Hammer, Catapult, and Bomb.
Transformosis: Kirby’s Mega Transformations
And if that wasn’t enough, in “Kirby and the Forgotten Land” we also have “transformosis,” the new mega transformations. When Kirby swallows an object, he also takes on its characteristics. These can be all sizes: a car, a light bulb, a vending machine… The important thing is that he acquires its shape, size, and unique properties, which will help us advance in the story. Not only that, but we can also upgrade the “transformosis” and level them up. To do this, we will need to collect stars that unlock after completing some very fun challenges.
Finishing the stages is easy, but the great thing is that its replay value is very high because all of them hide secrets or alternate paths, among other surprises. Ice, for example, allows freezing enemies and pushing them to break fire walls and keep moving forward.
The Ace Up Your Sleeve: Dodging
This new installment features a technique of vital importance: dodging.
Kirby can guard to block hits, but by combining a direction while blocking, Kirby will jump to that side. Moreover, if we have the skill to perform this dodge just at the right moment before receiving an attack, time will slow down and allow us to strike with more power.
The entire game mechanics and story are relatively simple. However, starting from world five, the challenge increases, and well-executed dodging becomes more than necessary, as does the ability to switch abilities according to the moment.
We can’t forget the multiplayer option in “Kirby and the Forgotten Land.” If we use Waddle Dee with a bandana, a second player can join the game.
