The gamers' favorite social platform
How many hours have you been spending playing these days? Surely quite a few. To help you meet people who share your gaming tastes and organize matches, we explain what Discord is and how to use it.
Discord is a social platform that lets you create chat groups for different purposes, like creating a bunch of WhatsApp groups, each dedicated to a specific topic, and bringing them all together in one place. Despite this, the area where it has caused the most excitement since its birth has been among gamers. Although it is true that nowadays many companies are using it to support their staff who are working from home because of its versatility and ease for gathering people interested in the same topic or work area.
The app has a version for PC and a version for mobile, although you can also use it directly from the browser. Besides text chatting, it also allows sending voice messages and even holding video calls. That is why it has had and continues to have so much success in the gaming world, since it lets you talk with others while you are playing thanks to its voice chat features. And all of this completely free of charge.
Don’t worry because voice calls will not slow down your game as they use low delay, or in other words, the calls will use the minimum possible data so as not to interfere with your online matches.
Also, you can link your Discord account to others such as Twitch, Youtube Gaming, Battle.net, Skype, Steam, Facebook, or Twitter among others.
Servers and channels, text and voice
Discord organizes its various topics into what it calls servers. This is the name given to each of the communities you can create on it. In turn, each server can have different content channels.
You can add your favorite servers to your Discord account. To get to know the different servers you can access on Discord, there are server indexes on pages like Discord.me, Disboard.org, Discordservers.com or Discordea.net/.
Once inside a server, you can browse the different channels that appear which can be text (if marked with a hash '#') or voice (if they have a speaker icon).
And remember that you can not only join already created servers, but you can also create your own server.

If you have chosen to create a new server, Discord generates an address (an instant invitation) that you can send to your friends so they can join the server.
You can add Bots
One of Discord’s main features is that it allows adding Bots, these are small third-party applications that add functions to your server. They are added as if they were users of your channel and you can find thousands of them here: https://discordbots.org/.
Now all that’s left is to install Discord on your smartphone, tablet or PC and dive into hours and hours of gaming with your friends.
