When you hadn’t even had time to recover from the spectacular finale of OT 2018, news arrived that fell like a bucket of cold water on the fans of this talent show. The officials of Televisión Española, when asked if there would be a new edition of the contest, responded negatively and indicated that “the format needed to rest.” But don’t worry, don’t pull your hair out yet... The news indicates that there will finally be a new edition of OT.
The new edition of OT
After a spectacular finale, fans of the Televisión Española music program were left wanting to know if they could see a new edition of the talent show next season. After statements from the network's officials, everything seemed to point to no one crossing the runway again for a while, but the network director qualified his words by adding that the date was not clear, but that OT would return with a new edition.
Although it is not a new format, its makeover with the 2017 edition earned it new fans who stayed glued to the screen week after week to soak up the best music and the progress of their favorite contestants. Now, and so that the show does not lose the freshness with which it returned to the screens in 2017, Eladio Jareño, director of TVE, indicated in an interview granted to Fórmula TV that the network will have to find the most suitable time to air the third edition of this new stage.
The network is clear that it is a show that works and is liked by the audience, so they continue to place their trust in it and will include it in the schedule for the 2019-2020 season. Now, the months until the return of OT is announced again will be used to analyze the show and introduce new improvements. In other words, the executives will look for the key to success to reinvent themselves again in the new season.
Who will be the new contestants? When will the castings start? Will the same jury remain? Will the teachers be the same? Will Roberto Leal continue to lead? There are still many unknowns to be revealed about the new edition of OT and we hope all will be resolved soon.
OT beyond television
Operación Triunfo has managed to be what it is today thanks to its fans, since since it returned in 2017 to Televisión Española the format has undergone a radical change. Now, it is a phenomenon on social media, the contestants have their own accounts where they can share their daily lives and reflections with their followers.
This close side of the contestants has earned them thousands of followers on Instagram and filled stadiums on their tour as happened on February 8 at the WiZink Centre in Madrid. The songs of the academy’s contestants have been sung by hundreds of voices in unison, eagerly waiting to reunite with the excitement of the galas.
