It was at the beginning of the year when it all started. While it seemed that Rigoberta Bandini’s song was going to become the song representing Spain at Eurovision (since it had the great advantage of having the support and promotion of the Mediaset Group), Chanel came along and shook the very foundations of the Benidorm Fest. She won this musical gala and sparked the Chanelista fever. And that’s how the fans of Chanel and her SloMo have self-proclaimed themselves, with the video already reaching almost 1.2 million views on YouTube.
We don’t want to forget the (undeniably) incredible work of Rigoberta, who came in second place with her popular and empowering song Ay mamá. She has also just released her official music video, which has already gathered nearly 900,000 views.
A different year for the Eurofans
This year seems different for the Spanish representative and the whole Eurovision fan movement. There’s a real chance to finish in the Top Ten! Here are the key points:
- The strong point is the choreography: the popular Eurovision consensus seems to agree that if Eurovision were a dance contest, the undisputed winner would be Chanel. Throughout the history of this contest, it’s true that we can find some examples of songs similar to our SloMo that won thanks to their staging and choreography, like the Ukrainian Ruslana with Wild Dances in 2004.
- Something never seen before at Eurovision: although it’s not the first time the national public broadcaster has said it would bring something never seen before to Eurovision, this year it seems they’ve hit the mark. Never before has the festival featured a dance break like the one Chanel has in this edition. Something similar was done by the runner-up of the 2018 edition, Eleni Foureira, with her powerful song Fuego (an artist who is often compared to Chanel because of the type of music and rhythm she brought that year). But the truth is that dedicating a part of the song solely to dancing is very innovative and will leave many speechless.
- At Eurovision, anything can happen: if the unexpected already happened in Benidorm when Chanel won against all odds over the big favorites, the same could happen in Turin, where Eurovision is held this year. This is exactly what happened to their representatives in the last 2021 edition, who took first place and caused a real surprise, as they were not among the favorites. Who says this year we won’t witness a true Chanelazo?
Chanel and her team of dancers are already in Turin, and the first two rehearsals have taken place. As criticism and comments are never far from artists, many have praised the brief footage of the performance shown by TVE, while others have pointed out various aspects, with the singer’s outfit, designed by the also TV-famous Palomo Spain, being one of the most talked about.

Whatever happens, the truth is that returning with SloMo to one of the top 10 positions would already be a fantastic result for Spain’s participation. The last time we achieved this position was in 2014, with Ruth Lorenzo and her Dancing in the rain. Until May 14, Chanel and her group will go on stage 4 times to rehearse and fine-tune their SloMo.
We are already ready to watch the final gala on May 14 at 9 p.m. on La 1 of TVE. And to entertain you all while you wait and show our full support for Chanel, we have prepared a very special giveaway on our social media. Our most Eurovision-enthusiast colleague has decided to give away our newly arrived SOUND ZENITH speaker so you can listen to this SloMo with its 24W power. Here is all the information to participate.
