The Spanish technology brand SPC shares five key recommendations to prevent high temperatures from affecting the performance of smartphones during the summer season.
Taking special care of our devices during these hot months is essential to ensure their operation and extend their lifespan.
With the arrival of summer and the accompanying high temperatures, it is crucial to remember that our mobile devices also need protection from the heat. Smartphones are indispensable tools in our daily lives, so it is vital to take precautions to prevent excessive heat from damaging them.
On the occasion of the summer season and the various risks our smartphones face, SPC, the Spanish consumer technology brand, has compiled the main tips to prevent the damage heat can cause to our devices.
Choose thin cases and remove them when charging the battery
When we buy a new device, protecting it is our priority. Using cases and screen protectors is key to preventing damage from drops or impacts. However, in summer, special care must be taken with the cases we use, since adding an extra layer slows down the dissipation of the phone’s heat, which can affect its performance and operation. During the summer months, it is advisable to use thin cases, preferably without a cover, which will still help protect the phone but retain less heat. If a device becomes overheated, it is recommended to remove the case to facilitate and speed up the cooling process.
Adjust settings like brightness or use dark mode to control temperature
Continuous and prolonged use of the phone for taking photos and videos, calls, or playing games will encourage overheating. This, combined with the typical summer heat, can be very harmful to internal components such as the battery or processor. If intensive use of the phone is planned, reducing screen brightness and using dark mode can help lower performance demands and power consumption, saving a few degrees of heat. If the phone becomes excessively hot, the best option is to let it rest until the temperature drops. In this regard, putting the phone in airplane mode is very helpful, as it reduces the device’s performance to almost a minimum.
Find cool, shaded places to charge the smartphone
When charging the device, whether fast or normal charging, it is important not to leave it charging under direct sunlight, as this would cause the internal temperature of the device to rise sharply. A shaded, well-ventilated place will help prevent overheating, avoiding areas or spaces where the temperature is very high or poorly ventilated. For example, a common practice is to charge it under the pillow, which is convenient for having the phone close by but can be disastrous for our devices.
Let it cool down and avoid sudden temperature changes
Following the above advice will help reduce heat in devices, but patience is also essential. On days when high temperatures slow down the cooling process, it is best to set the device aside to rest and cool down gradually. Using a refrigerator or freezer to speed up cooling is not recommended, as the contrast between the device’s heat and the cold temperature will cause internal condensation in the form of water, which will damage the device’s components.
