Don't pay for cloud storage and optimize your smartphone's internal memory with these 6 SPC tips

Photos, videos, music, and other files can take up a lot of space on your mobile device, which may lead us to having to subscribe to paid cloud services. Before paying for additional space, consider these SPC suggestions to make the most of your mobile phone’s storage.

Madrid, January 12, 2023 - Nowadays, many of us choose to store the photos and videos we take with our smartphone or the documents we download in the cloud. However, the cloud has limited storage capacity in its free versions, which leads us to consider subscribing to a paid storage upgrade.

Aware of this challenge, SPC, a technology company specializing in the development of consumer electronics products, offers 6 suggestions to use your phone’s storage in the best possible way and save some money, thus avoiding the need to use paid cloud services:

Clear app cache

The cache generated by apps is the amount of temporary data stored on the smartphone while you use certain apps. This data is used to make apps run faster and usually includes images, audio files, and other elements that take up a lot of space.

If you want to free up storage space quickly, clearing the cache is one of the first options you should try. You can clear the cache individually for each app, but there are also free tools available in the Android Play Store that allow you to clean the cache easily. This action alone could free up 1 GB of space.

Add extra storage with a microSD card

If you want to store some photos and videos that bring back memories or install large apps like games, there is always the option to save them on an additional microSD memory card. Most mobile phones offer the possibility to insert this type of card to get extra storage.

For example, there are mobile phones that support high-capacity microSD cards. This way, you can set up some large apps or future files (such as photos from the camera) to be saved on the microSD card as the storage destination.

Reduce the quality of your multimedia files

Except for occasional cases where high-definition images are necessary, it is advisable to lower the resolution of multimedia files. For example, when recording videos, it is recommended to change the default Full HD quality to HD, which records in high definition and is sufficient for most home videos made with our phones. There are mobile phones on the market with a main camera that takes high-resolution photos and allows you to easily adjust image quality from the Settings option.

Delete apps you don’t use regularly

Did you know you can use the Google Play Store to clean up your phone’s storage? All you have to do is open the store, tap your profile, and manage apps and devices. Then, tap the Storage section, where Google Play Store shows you the apps you’ve downloaded and how much space they are using.

Next, you can select the apps you don’t use often and delete those that are taking up too much storage space.

Disable automatic WhatsApp file storage

If you use WhatsApp frequently, the first thing you should do is disable the automatic transfer and storage of files shared in groups and chats within Settings, whether they are images, audio, or voice messages. This option drastically reduces the number of files that fill up memory daily and avoids the time spent later selecting and deleting them. Save manually what you want to keep, ensuring good management of your mobile device’s storage.

Use free cloud storage

There are ways to save some money with Google’s free services, which offer 15 GB of free storage for Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Photos. If you manage and review the photos, videos, and other documents stored in your Google cloud account, you can free up internal memory on your smartphone.
