SPC's environmental commitment: reuse and recycling of devices and parts.

Introduction:

SPC has a strong commitment to reuse. Therefore, the technical team directs all its efforts to extend, with guarantees, the useful life of electronic devices, knowing that this is key to significantly reducing the environmental impact of the technology industry.

The main goal guiding all the steps of our SAT (Technical Support Service) is, therefore, to repair as much as possible and resort to recycling only as a last option.

A sign of this commitment is that in all estimates sent to customers for repairing products that are no longer under warranty due to time limits or that cannot be covered due to misuse, the aim is to minimize the financial outlay for the user.

Estimates are adjusted to the maximum so that the repair is a truly affordable solution for the user. In this way, it is easier for them to choose to give the device a second chance and discard replacing it with a new one. That is, the economic factor is not a justification.

Fortunately, users’ environmental awareness is growing, which, combined with our firm purpose and will to minimize the footprint of our activity, means that the vast majority of repair proposals are accepted.

Recycling process when the device needs repair:

After thorough analysis and assessment of solutions, if it is determined that the repair process involves replacing a component, the replaced component is recycled.

If it is concluded that the device has a severe fault, to the point that repair with guarantees is not feasible, the device is dismantled and its components recycled.

It is then sent to FAUXPUVER S.L., a company specialized in the repair and treatment of household electrical appliances, where the devices are disassembled and components are sorted according to their nature and safe recycling process: batteries, screens, plastics, mainboard, cables…

Once this process is done, when a large amount of components has been stored, they are then moved to Residuos electrónicos S.L., an authorized waste management company where a second sorting of components takes place (since FAUXPUVER already performs the first) and then recycling.

This double sorting helps reduce errors in the process and ensures recycling with minimal impact and maximum resource use.

It is worth noting that the delivery of material to this manager (Residuos electrónicos S.L.) is not done periodically or on a schedule, but only when there is a large volume of material, enough to fill a trailer with at least 40 pallets on board. Optimizing the process from transport helps reduce the footprint left by mobility, which is why other methods besides shipping are discarded due to volume reasons.

The central SPC SAT, located in Briviesca (Burgos), also handles the collection of these wastes from authorized technical services.

Recycling process when the device comes from a return:

Returned products are items that have been in use for a short time. In most cases, these are items that have been tested briefly, did not meet expectations, and are returned to origin.

Therefore, there is a high probability that the device functions correctly, maintains an adequate appearance, and can be reused as a refurbished product.

If, on the other hand, the product has a significant defect and is unusable, the process specified in the previous section is repeated.
