MWC 2024 - SPC presents SPC CARE, the first remote assistance app to bring mobile technology closer to seniors and promote healthy aging

MWC 2024 - SPC presents SPC CARE, the first remote assistance app to bring mobile technology closer to seniors and promote healthy aging

SPC CARE will, for the first time, allow remote management of mobile phones without an internet connection from a caregiver’s smartphone, making technology more accessible to the senior sector without sacrificing their autonomy: a pioneering project that only the leader in mobile telephony in our country, SPC, could carry out.

With this innovative app in the industry, the caregiver will be able to access the full remote configuration of the senior’s phone, protect them from SPAM and unknown contacts; they will be able to know their location at all times, set safety perimeters and receive alerts if these are crossed, and will look after their health by sending reminders for medical appointments and medications among other useful options.

With SPC CARE, nothing changes for our seniors; but many things change for their families, who can now lend a hand with the use of their mobile phone as if they were by their side. SPC thus reaffirms its commitment to older adults through products and technological solutions adapted to their needs.

SPC, the leading Spanish consumer electronics brand in technology for senior users, has presented at Mobile World Congress 2024 SPC CARE, an innovative application to manage mobile phones for seniors from their caregiver’s smartphone. Under the claim “The remote help app to care for those who cared for us,” the company has introduced its new project aimed at bridging the digital divide and promoting healthy aging.

SPC CARE is the first remote help app for senior users with non-smartphones aimed at the end consumer without dependence on external agents, medical companies, or other intermediaries. In this way, the company, based in Vitoria, continues strengthening its commitment to the senior audience for whom it designs specific products that help close the digital gap and promote healthy, active, and independent aging. Not surprisingly, the company is a leader in the senior segment, as 40% of mobile phones sold in Spain are SPC brand. This market moves nearly half a million mobile phone units annually in our country, mainly aimed at older adults.

Thanks to this innovative application, our seniors will be able to carry out their activities independently, but always with the accompaniment and remote assistance of their direct caregivers.

An innovative development to care for those who cared for us

SPC CARE is designed to make the care and attention of older adults easier, helping them continue their daily activities independently. The application is installed on the caregiver’s smartphone and links it to an SPC mobile phone, offering access to numerous shared functionalities, configuration permissions, and remote care capabilities.

The app is designed to promote the health, safety, and well-being of users of non-smart mobile phones, as well as the peace of mind of family members and loved ones. Its main features include:

  • Access to full remote configuration of the phone, allowing the caregiver to adjust basic settings such as screen brightness, font size, and especially sound settings (ringtone and volume) for calls, notifications, speakerphone, alarms, etc. They can also activate or deactivate the SOS button so the senior user can easily alert their closest contacts in case of emergency.
  • Protection against SPAM and unknown contacts. The caregiver can access the list of received SMS and calls, mark them as “read,” and add unwanted contacts to the “blacklist.”
  • Device location, as well as the option to set safety perimeters and receive alerts if they are crossed.
  • Option to send reminders to the senior user and for caregivers to receive notifications about movements and activity of their elderly relative, as well as alerts for sedentary behavior or unusual phone inactivity.

SPC CARE allows family members and/or loved ones to manage more than one SPC mobile phone. This management can also be shared with other “helpers” who have the app installed on their smartphones.

This innovative project expands the brand’s portfolio of products and solutions focused on the senior segment, aiming to bring technology closer to all people regardless of age. With SPC, technology is once again put at the service of older adults to fight the digital divide. This application, together with products designed by the company with simple usability and easy access, allows the senior sector to gradually incorporate technology into their routine, thus enjoying all the benefits it offers.

SPC CARE will be available throughout 2024 along with SPC POLARIS, the first mobile phone for seniors compatible with the new application. From this initial integration, SPC will progressively extend it to other brand launches to offer a complete solution for future devices for older adults, provided they are 4G models.

SPC at the forefront of Spanish technological innovation at MWC 2024

During its participation at MWC, Teresa Acha-Orbea, General Manager of SPC, highlighted the importance of bridging the digital divide through the company’s commitment to democratize technology, making it accessible to everyone regardless of age. At the event, Teresa stated: “Although technology increasingly occupies more spaces in our lives, we see that older users show varying degrees of knowledge and familiarity with the digital environment. At SPC, we continuously work to develop products and services that pave the way for more inclusive use and allow older adults to truly benefit from technology in their daily lives.”

“For us, SPC CARE is the natural way to continue innovating in the feature phone category, where we are leaders with a 40% market share. At SPC, we are firmly committed to continuing to bring disruption and innovation to a category that other brands already considered exhausted. It is part of our DNA to listen to the market and offer simple and affordable products that meet real needs,” added Teresa Acha-Orbea.

The Basque Country-based company was present at MWC within the Spain Pavilion, in its own space that brought together a total of 45 Spanish companies representing national technological innovation, selected by Red.es, an entity attached to the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Function.
